Droving law attacked
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Aug. 4.
The economy of many farmers could be upset by new legislation on the droving of stock along roads, members of the Auckland provincial executive of Federated Farmers said at a meeting today. It was said that an amendment to the Transport Act last year gave counties the power to forbid the moving of stock, except in motor vehicles. Individual counties would require to pass by-laws to give effect to this and there would be provision for objections to be heard. Delegates called the powers far too sweeping and said their implementation would depend on the good will of particular counties. The farmer was being progressively hamstrung and it was preposterous that counties could interfere with the economy of farms.
