Life-Line seeks aid
Five hundred genuin > -alls for help were receiver over the Life-Line telephone ounselling service in the last three months, the Rev. B. E. Mackie told a meeting of the Christchurch Methodist Central Mission board last evening. This was 53 calls less than the previous quarter—the highest number of calls on record. Letters have been sent to local denominations seeking financial support for the service which now has a heavy deficit. Although it is administered ecumenically, financial needs are met by the mission. Calls received by Youthline telephone counselling service were increasingly from unmarried mothers and teen-agers with problems rerelating to people, Mr Mackie said.
A compulsory training course for Youthline counsellors had been compiled and a live-in training week-end will be held at Glentui camp next month. An ecumenical children’s story telephone service is soon to be started by the mission.
