Surveyors consulted
For the first time, the institute had been asked to comment on the structure of legislation that was being drafted, and this was a definite improvement in communications with the authorities, said the president of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (Mr J. H. Miller). A supplied report of the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch said that Mr Miller referred to the problems associated with the standard of education and qualification for survey assistants and said it was hoped that the new syllabus under the Technicians’ Certification Authority would be in operation in 1972.
This, said Mr Miller, would give prospective candidates a choice of a three-year course giving a similar qualification to the one now available for the survey technician’s certificate, or a fiveyear course for a certificate of land surveying. Officers elected were: Chairman, Mr J. R. Gregory; secretary, Mr D. R. Gordon; treasurer, Mr R. E. Fear; publicity officer, Mr I. C. Chisholm;. committee, Messrs H. W. B. Greig, D. Rowell, A. C. Iversen, J. L. Williams and M. G. Branthwaite.
House of Gordon.—Mrs A. N. Mac Lean was elected secretary of the House of Gordon at the annual meeting in Christchurch. Three of the committee members elected were Messrs M., P., and C. Gordon.
