A DAY TO REMEMBER.—The strain of seeing the President of the United States face to face was too much for Shirley Smith, a 14-year-old student, who was among a crowd waiting to greet Mr Nixon after an unveiling ceremony in Washington. When Mr Nixon saw Shirley burst into tears he moved towards her and patted her on the cheek. She said afterwards: “I love him. I’ve never seen a President before.”
