(N.Z.P.A.-lteuten-CoppripM) t March 24. Shortages of molten iron for steelmaking, and strikes caused a reduction in Broken Hill Proprietory Company, Ltd’s production from the company’s mills. A major contributing cause at Port Kembla steel, works was the loss of almost a week’s production from Australia’s largest blast furnace, which was malfunctioning. The company produced 443,419 tons of iron, and 460,506 tons of steel in February compared with 445,665 and 488,069 tons respectively in the same month last year and 522,804 and 558,372 tons in January this year. Production of coke, however was higher at 205,194 tons in February compared with 143,048 tons last year, and 134,542 tons in January this year. The company’s share of the 8.H.P.-Esso output stood lower at 3m barrels of crude oil compared with 3.1 m barrels in January, but natural gas production was. higher at 555 m cubic feet compared with 547 m cubic feet in January.
