Regulations requiring the contents of packages to be stated on the labels of certain lines will now initially be published in the Gazette, the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Shelton), told Parliament He said this followed an investigation by the department of the need for regulations to give effect to mandatory provisions of the Consumer Information Act, and after consultations which the department had with consumer and manufacturing interests. Replying to a question from Mr W. W. Freer (Lab., Mt Albert), Mr Shelton said the mandatory provisions of the act came into force on June 1, 1970, since when the department had investigated “considerably more than 100 inquiries dealing with the application of those provision; in particular cases.”
