(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) TELEFOMIN (New Guinea), March 22. At least 11 people, including an American family of four, were killed yesterday when land forming part of a mission airstrip collapsed on the village of Tifalmin.

About 100 rescuers are digging through the 15 feet of mud covering the wrecked village, in search of bodies. Eye-witnesses.say that the airstrip collapsed suddenly with a sound like the fire of huge guns. The village is in the highlands of the western Sepik district of Papua-New Guinea, about 450 miles north-west of Port Moresby. Members of the American family were working for the Institute of Linguistics. Their house was demolished in the landslide.

The regional director of Civil Defence, Mr lan Skinner, says that aircraft and helicopters are in the region, ready to give help to the survivors.
