(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) TELEFOMIN (New Guinea), March 22. At least 11 people, including an American family of four, were killed yesterday when land forming part of a mission airstrip collapsed on the village of Tifalmin.
About 100 rescuers are digging through the 15 feet of mud covering the wrecked village, in search of bodies. Eye-witnesses.say that the airstrip collapsed suddenly with a sound like the fire of huge guns. Members of the American family were working for the Institute of Linguistics. Their house was demolished in the landslide.
