Aust, shares “black”

(N.Z. P.A. -Reuter— Copyright)

LONDON, Feb. 18.

Some British brokers are “blacking” Australian stocks, according to the “Evening News."

The paper, said: “Never again, it seems, will private investors get their fingers burnt on the scale they did in the great Australian mining debacle where fortunes were, lost in a matter of days.

“More and more brokers are taking rigorous steps to discourage the few clients who still want to gamble down under.

“They will no longer deal in Australian-registered (as opposed to London-regis-tered) stocks. “Several firms charge double commission for Australian deals, and demand cash on the nail from buyers while keeping sellers waiting for their money until the slow-moving stock eventually comes through.”
