Two of the world’s top women tennis players, the Australians, Mrs M. Court' ‘ and Miss E. Goolagong, may meet on a winner- ' take-all basis at Wilding Park tomorrow week.
. Negotiations with the two players are being carried out by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, which is optimistic they will be successful. The money prize that will be at stake is undisclosed. It is also possible that other leading overseas women players will be asked to play on the same day if the Australians accept the invitation. A part Aboriginal Miss Goolagong proved a tremendous public drawcard in the recent national championships at Wilding Park, during which she won the women’s singles title.
Before coming to Christchurch, Miss Goolagong had defeated Mrs Court, the grand slam winner last year, in the final of the Australian championships.
