CONTAINER BAN
At a special stop work meeting early yesterday morning Lyttelton watersiders discussed the Wellington watersiders’ ban on handling consolidated containers which began on the Wellington waterfront on Wednesday- . , The two largest national freight forwarders affected in Wellington are Alltrans, in which Thomas Nationwide Transport has an interest, and the Freightways group. The secretary of the Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union (Mr M. E. Foster) said yesterday that his union endorsed the Wellington action and pledged full support for it. He said that the Lyttelton union however, would not be taking any action in placing a ban on the containers concerned, at present
Rail-cars raided.—-Two Blue Streak rail-cars kept overnight in the Wellington locomotive shed were raided by thieves on Thursday night A tape recorder and an amplifier of a total value of $240, were stolen from the rail-cars. —(P.A.)
