WELL, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

(By

WHIM WHAM

“If the worst happens, there will have to be a massive restructuring of our economy. . . We are working flat out to get the best deal possible. . . If our efforts are in vain it will be a disaster. I don't , think our efforts will be in vain.”—The Prime Minister. Sir Keith Holyoake (on Britain’s E.E.C. negotiations) to a Federated Farmers’ meeting pt Stratford. I hope our Efforts will not be in Vain. I’m glad the Skipper doesn’t think They will be. It’s foggy Sailing, anything but plain. We’re still afloat, but whether We shall still be A few Years on, or running hard Aground —? Are there enough Life-jackets to go round? Be still, be still, thou little Cow Cocky! What is It makes Thee shrink so? The Weather’s foul and the Lee-shore’s rocky, But we’re safe, at least I THINK so. Somewhere there is a Rock that’s called Disaster. And if our Efforts fail, that’s where We’ll hit. Calm on the Bridge he stands, the gallant Master. ‘Yarely, my Lads! I THINK we’ll weather It’. And Who knows better than this old Sea Dog All Weathers but particularly, Fog. Be calm, be calm, on your high Sheep Fann' Cling to the slippery Brink. Feel no unnecessary Alarm, For it won’t collapse I THINK. The Fog is thick, there’s Warning of a Gale. The Passengers, poor Lubbers down below, Keep hoping that his Efforts will not fail. He says he THINKS they won’t, but does He know? The Ship’s at Sea, with All of us aboard her. I hope the Pumps are in good working Order. Be still, be still, in City and Town! The Skipper will cope, Somehow. If We don’t sink, We won’t go down 1 And I THINK that’s All, for Now.
