“Piped music”
Sir, —I, too, am not an advocate of “piped music.” Occasionally I travel on a bus to the country to visit relatives. Several times “piped music” was played, and once I asked the driver if he would turn the volume down a little, as on previous occasions I had arrived at my destination with a splitting headache caused by this so-called “music,” which consisted of pop rubbish blaring very loudly. I am not a highbrow, but can appreciate good music. The driver observed, “You know lady, I travel as far as Blenheim and I sure need some music on that long trip.” Of course, what is known as “music” to one person could easily be described as agony to another; but I consider that when one’s fare is paid, or when one’s electricity account is paid, one should be able to enjoy the privilege of peace and quiet. —Yours, etc., V.M.L.
