Operation Longbank
Sir, —We were shocked to hear our American friends and allies referred to as “foreigners in uniform,” especially as this ignorance and hot air was blown through a megaphone by a bunch of silly brats hardly out of their nappies. It seems obvious that they have not had their ears boxed hard enough when giving cheek at home. If there is any excuse for them, it must be that they were not even bom at the time we were i watching the spinechilling advance of the enemy hordes towards our defenceless little islands. It would have been interesting to see what such demonstrating would have achieved in the face of this very real threat. This creeping terror, which was averted by these same “foreigners in uniform,” and everyone agreed at the time, and for long afterwards, "We would have been in the cart, all right, but for the Yanks.” —Yours, etc., ONE GRATEFULL GRANNY. February 5, 1971.
