The world speedway champion for the last three years, I. Mauger, of Christchurch, was awarded a special plaque “for outstanding achievement In motor-cycle sports” by the New Zealand Auto Cycle Union in Hamilton during the week-end.
Plaques were also awarded to two other world famous New Zealand motor-cyclists—H. R. Anderson (Ohinewai), the winner of four world roadracing championships in the 50 c.c. and 125 c.c. classes, and 71-year-old B. Munro (Invercargill), who has been a world speed record aspirant for many years. The awards are the first to be made in the 50-year history of the union.
“These awards will only be given for very outstanding achievements,” a member of the executive (Mr C. A Treneary, of Christchurch), said last evening.
