Mayor will call meeting
The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr A. R. Guthrey) will call a meeting of local bodies in the area within the next fortnight to discuss community projects of benefit to all, instancing yesterday the Commonwealth Games and the Town Hall. “I shall invite all the mayors and chairmen or their nominees, and those of their councillors who desire to attend the meeting,” Mr Guthrey said yesterday. “The purpose of the meeting will be to have frank discussion on metropolitan projects, and to bring about a better understanding of one
another’s problems.” Mr Guthrey said that Christchurch had a very bright future and was rapidly becoming a very attractive place to live in as well as a popular tourist and commercial centre. “Each territorial local body has a very responsible job to do in its own area of administration and also has a responsible job to the total community to promote Christchurch as a metropolis,” he said.
