Trust gives $140,100 to charities
Grants amounting to $140,100 have been made for 1970 by the J. R. McKenzie Trust Board to 178 organisations throughout New Zealand. This brings distributions since the inception of the trust to $1,784,500. Included in the 178 grants are 10 for more than $2OOO. These are: J. R. McKenzie Youth Education Fund; Heritage; Birthright (N,Z.); Plunket Society; bursaries for Karitane nurse trainees; Council for Educational Research; J. R. McKenzie fellowship in educational research; National Heart Foundation, J. R. McKenzie research fellowship; Navy League; Sea Cadets; Salvation Army; Christchurch Aged People's Welfare Council; Christchurch Children’s Home Trust Board. Among the 35 national organisations to receive grants are: Salvation Army $2500; Scouts $1500; Navy League $2000; Guides $1400; St John Ambulance $1000; Y.W.C.A. and Y.M.C.A. $l2OO each.
