First woman on Baptist council

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 3. The first woman was elected to the Baptist Union Council at the eighty-eighth annual assembly in Dunedin. She is Mrs Vivien Boyd, of Hutt Valley. A former president of the Baptist Women's League, and member of the public questions committee, Mrs Boyd stood for the council as a matter of principle—to represent the 50 per cent membership of women within the Baptist Churches of New Zealand. She hopes her election will prompt other women to take a seat on this administrative body. Mrs Boyd is also active in the National Council of Women, and during five years in Dunedin served a term as president of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten.
