Guiding programmes “most significant”
The introduction of new programmes in all branches of the North Canterbury Provincial Girl Guides’ Association was the most significant event in the last year, the provincial commissioner (Mrs G. O. Osborne) said in her annual report.
The major change was in the 14 to 19 age group with the formation of rangerguide service units. The response to this programme was good and 28 dnits were started during the year, she said.
Mrs Osborne said that at the beginning of July last year the province was completely reorganised. Two new
divisions and six new districts were formed, reducing the size of the areas previously covered by some commissioners.
Apart from the 28 ranger-, guide units formed, 11 brownie packs and nine guide companies were started, bringing the total number of units in the province to 238.
The total membership was now .4743, 313 more than last year. This membership was made up of 4257 rangers, guides and brownies, and 486 leaders. •
The association was now two-thirds of the way in its appeal for funds for the new building at Cracroft, she said. It was hoped that the building would be completed early next year and that it could be possible to open it debt free.
