Casein cargo experiment
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 9. An instrument known as a thermohygrograph has been borrowed from the Meteorological Office to record temperature and humidity in the first experimental shipment of casein by container to North America.
The experiment is being run in conjunction with the Dairy Board. A spokesman for the transport firm, Mr B. K. Vallings, said casein was a product which could suffer in shipping conditions that encouraged humidity. It was normally shipped below decks, but little Was known of the conditions it would be subject to in a container carried on deck. The casein will leave in the Port Caroline on Wednesday for Riverton, New Jersey. The instrument has sufficient battery power to last two months. It will be sent back to New Zealand where the results will he analysed.
