CRITICISM OF SITE

(IV.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 8. The Government has made a colossal mistake in its decision not to site the second Auckland University at Manurewa, the Mayor of Manukau City (Mr L. Elsmore) said yesterday, at the opening of Ferguson Intermediate School. Otara. “But I’ve had plenty of brickbats thrown at me in my time, and I know that the decision is not the Minister’s alone,” he added. The Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys) said later that he could not help but wonder what the situation would have been had he been opening a school in Birkenhead—close to the site decided upon —and the decision had gone the other way.
