Gas fills flat

Three young men had a narrow escape from death on Sunday night when gas filled their Shaw Avenue, New Brighton, flat as they slept One of the men turned the flame of the gas stove in the kitchen out before he went to bed about midnight, but the supply was not cut off. The three awoke early in the morning and realised what had happened. One collapsed three times, skinning his nose when he fell to the floor. All were unable to move for some time. They went by bus to Christchurch Hospital, where they were given oxygen before being discharged.
