Gift to Te Wai Pounamu
(From Our Own Reporter) ' TIMARU, Nov. 8. A gift of $7O was made to Te-Wai Pounamu College, Christchurch, by the South Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women at its annual meeting. Commending the project, the’ retiring president (Miss R. I. M. Mann) said that the college was in imminent danger of closing unless sponsors and pupils could be found straight away. Persons concerned with Maori education were agreed that a need still existed for such colleges, where Maori girls gained confidence by living with members of their own cultural group. At the same time, said Miss Mann, they had the experience of integrating y«th European girls for their lessons.
