Broodmare award

(N.Z. Pi>ess Association) WELLINGTON. The two major breeding awards of the year will both go to the Trelawney Stud, Cambridge, as a result of the election yesterday of the 1970 "Broodmare of the Year” by the council of the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders* Association. The title has gone to Beehive, the dam of the brilliant Sydney galloper, Divide and Rule. She was chosen by a former racing editor of the "The Dominion, Mr S. V. McEwen, and the keeper of the stud book, Mr G. Read. Their recommendation was unanimously endorsed by the Breeders’ Council. Beehive, by Pride of Kildare from Honeywood, by Foxbridge, is owned by Messrs N. R. Souter and L. S. Otway. Mr Otway is the proprietor of Trelawney Stud. Alcimedes, which stands there, headed the combined New Zealand-Austra-lian Sires’ List in 1969-70, and thus won the Dewar Trophy.
