(N.Z. Press Association) TE AROHA. When nominations closed at 3 p.m. on Thursday for the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes to be staged by the Te Aroha Jockey Club at its February meeting next year, more than 200 nominations had been received. These included three from Australia and more than 20 from the South Island. The Breeders’ Stakes will be the third richest stakes event on the New Zealand racing calendar and while it will be early next week before all the entries are collated the club secretary (Mr E. G. Hancock) said it did not appear that any well-performed New Zealand filly or mare had been nominated. The total of stakes and stallion awards brings the total value of the race to more than $24,000.
