After-school programmes
Sir, —A programme of sports and other activities should be started at the schools. Let the children use the playing-fields and the equipment that has been provided by the parents and the Government through the Education Board. Let the parents get some return for the money spent. Why shut the playing-fields during weekends and for three months in the year? Where are all the members of the tennis and bowling clubs, members of the P.T.A., C.W.1., M.L., W.G., and the J.C.? Let some of the members come forward and give one afternoon to act as a volunteer to help the children in the activity programme. The community must take more serious thought on how different sections could contribute to meet the needs of the children of all ages and inclinations.— Yours, etc., ONE VOLUNTEER. October 16, 1970.
