Taxi-tares To Rise?

(N.Z. Press Association) ' AUCKLAND, September 3. Taxi-fares would have to be increased by about 20c to meet Increases in overheads caused by renegotiated awards for drivers and telephonists, said the Auckland Co-opera-tive Taxi Society’s secretary (Mr A. Sinclair) today, at the Taxi Proprietors’ Federation annual conference. The Drivers’ Award would be renegotiated later this month. It was expected that drivers’ wages would be increased by about 50 per cent, he said. The Telephonists' Award would follow quickly on the Drivers’ Award and would bring an expected 30 per cent increase in wages.
