Mass Raids Planned rNZ.P.X-Reulsr—CopvrtfihtJ MOSCOW, Aug. 22. The Soviet Union today announced a 20-day clean-up campaign on the Volga River in the battle against pollution of the country’s biggest waterway. The front-page announcement in the Government newspaper, “Izvestia,” said that what it called “mass raids” would be carried out from September 10 to September 30 to check the cleansing of waste products from factories. Groups from the people’s control committee as well as correspondents from Russian newspapers would conduct the raids, which would also check op river boats, new cleansing construction, sewage and the effects of oil and chemical discharge. The prominehce given to the announcement appeared to reflect serious official concern at the growing problem of pollution.
