Britain’s new rules for handling foot-and-mouth disease were brought into operation yesterday when the disease was suspected in three Guernsey cows at a farm in Cornwall. The cows wereisolated from others in the herd, tests made and the movement of animals within a five-mile radius prohibited. However, last night the Ministry of Agriculture said the tests had proved negative, and the restrictions have been lifted.
