Vegetable And Fruit Prices

There was little change in the price of most lines of fruit and vegetables at the Christchurch produce markets yesterday compared with prices at the beginning of the week. Cauliflowers were 40c dearer at from $1.20 to $2.10 a case. Spinach cost 60c more at 1.50 a case, and tomatoes were up 10c per lb at 71c per lb.

A notable increase was in the price of cucumbers which fetched $3.75 a case yesterday, $1.65 a case more than on Monday.

Cases of silver beet were 30c cheaper at from 50c to 80c a case, and parsnips, which sold for 60c a case, were 20 c cheaper. The price of passionfruit dropped from $2.50 a case on Monday to $2 yesterday.

The official price range supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers' Association was:—

Silver Beet. —50c to 80c a case. Beetroot.—6oc a case. Pumpkins.—To $7 a sack. Cabbages.—4oc to $1.20 a case. Carrots.—soc to 80c a case. Cauliflowers. —1.20 to $2.10 a case.

Onions.—To $4 a bag. Parsnips.—6oc a case. Sprouts.—sl.so to $3 a case. Swedes.—To $1.40 a bag. White Turnips.—soc a dozen bunches.

Potatoes.—soc to 75c a bag. Kumeras.—s3.so a case. Spring Onions.—To 80c a doz, bunches.

Radishes. —To 70c a dozen bunches.

Lettuces.—To $1.65 a case. Leeks.—To $1.20 a case. Utah Celery.—To $3.25 a case. Spinach.—To $l.BO a case. Cucumbers.—s3.7s a case. Tomatoes.—To 71c per lb. Grapefruit.—s 3 to $4 a case. Passionfruit.—s2 a case. Tamarillos. —$1.80 to $4 a case. Chinese Gooseberries.—To $4 a case.
