Business Contest

Four Christchurch high schools will go into the second round of a business management game, being held among New Zealand schools and run by the New Zealand Society of Accountants and a computer firm. The contest, which began in April and involved 84 teams from high schools throughout the country, involves the theoretical marketing of a product, with appropriate deploying of “funds” among the departments of the marketing “company.” The Christchurch schools, which will compete with five Dunedin schools in the second round, are Linwood High School (A team), Papanui High School, St Andrew’s College and Burnside High School. The decisions are processed each week by computer and each result is returned to the team in time to enable the next decisions to be made. The second round will finish at the end of July, and the national final will be held, with one team each ( from Auckland, Wellington, and the South Island, on September 26.
