AWARD FOR ROTARY
Cressy House Project The Rotary Club of Lyttelton has been awarded the significant achievement award of Rotary International for its work in connection with the establishment of Cressy House [as a home for the aged at Lyttelton. i Rotary International cites the club’s “splendid work,” and says that the project involved the purchase and coniversion of the disused Lyttelton Maternity Hospital. It was necessary to convince the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) of the need, to negoti[ate a subsidy of $55,000, and Ito form the Cressy House Trust Board. The club raised money to buy furnishings, I meet initial costs and to keep [charges down. The home will be opened I before the end of the month, providing accommodation for 18 people. The award will be i presented to the club's president (Mr R. H. Blatchfordi lon June 29 by Mr I. T. Galloway, representing the governor of the Rotary district, Mr A. S. Ombler, of Milton.
