CARVING FINISHED

The Maori opera singer Inia Te Wiata has finished carving four huge panels for New Zealand House in London.

He completed the last panel about a week ago before flying to New Zealand last week to begin rehearsals for the Maori Theatre Company’s world tour. Only two prow-pieces remain to be done, and these could be put up at any time,he said in Auckland. The work had been delayed by visiting New Zealanders, who wanted to watch and talk.

“It’s my own fault for saying on television, ‘Yes, come and see me,’ ” he said. “But I didn’t expect them to come 12,000 miles.”
