SOME RATES LOWER
Examples of the rate demands that will go out to Christchurch City Council ratepayers in August were given to the City Council last evening by the chairman of its finance committee (Cr H. P. Smith).
From them it is possible for ratepayers to get a general guide on how they will be affected. As well as collecting its own general amalgamated rate on the capital value, the council rates for waterworks on the capital value, collects for the North Canterbury Catchment Board on the unimproved basis and: for the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board’s levy on the basis of the value of improvements. As a collecting agent it also bills ratepayers for the demands of the Christchurch Transport and Drainage Boards.
Cr Smith’s examples, for twb city buildings with figures given to the nearest $, except for totals, were:
