REFERENCE LIBRARY
Share Basis Discussed Discussions on the possibility of the cost of reference services of the Canterbury Public Library being shared by metropolitan local bodies would be continued in about two months, the cultural committee reported to the City' Council last evening. At a recent meeting there had been a suggestion that an allocation on the percentage of users might be fairer than taking population as a basis, the committee said. The cost of reference services was estimated at 853,987 this year. On a population basis, the city would pay $33,750; Waimairi $11,772, Paparua $4806, Heathcote $1512, Riccarton $1458, and Lyttelton $702. Adresses Of Users
The addresses of users of the reference library in one week showed the following percentages and the percentage of population: city, 69, 62.5; Waimairi, 16, 21.8; Paparua, 4. 8.9; Heathcote, 3, 2.8; Riccarton, 3, 2.7; Lyttelton, 1, |1.3: others, 4. i The City Librarian (Mr J. E. D. Stringleman) had been asked for a survey of users for a whole month and to include occupations in the information sought.
