No Fixed Price Intended

MONACO, June 3.
A top Australian wool official has calmed fears that the world’s biggest producer might introduce a fixed price for its clip Fixed-price fears had been expressed at the International Wool Textile Organisation (LW.T.O.) conference in Monaco amid proposals to establish a single authority to acquire and sell Australian wool production. But Sir William Gunn, chairman of the Australian Wool Board, told the LW.T.O. wool committee: ‘We realise that any attempt to hold the the world to ransom on the price or withhold supplies from the market would do untold harm to the industry."
He described the severe economic probelms facing growers in Australia after a 15 per cent fall in prices this season and aggravated by drought in some areas. Sir William Gunn said increased efficiency was essential if the industry was to survive.
