(N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY. A Wilkes colt saved the prelunch session of the annual Newmarket Yearling Sales yesterday from a very low aggregate The colt, out of City Pride, sold to Mr H. Steinburg for $12,500 Mr. Steinburg is the owner of Broker's Tip which won the Doncaster Handicap at the recent Randwick Easter Carnival. Apart from the Wilkes colt the other yearlings on offer sold for low prices. Over the four days auction, 546 yearlings were sold for $1,501,800, an average of $2751 Twelve months ago 685 lots went under the hammer for $1,831,000, averaging $2673 It was a particularly disappointing final day yesterday with only 94 yearlings being sold for $147,175. This was an average of $1566. the lowest of the four days.
