Hamilton Is Challenger (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. Hamilton Boys’ High School provided a strong challenge to Wanganui Collegiate’s eightyear hold on the Maadi Cup when the New Zealand secondary schools’ championship heats were rowed on Lake Karapiro yesterday. Hamilton covered the 2000metre course in the very fast time of 6min 23sec to win the first heat. Kings Collegiate took the second heat in 6min 24sec.
Results of heats in the Springbok Shield (fours) and Maadi Cup (eights) were:— Springbok Shield. —Heat 1: Fairfield College 1, St Andrew s College 2, Wanganui Collegiate 3 St Paul’s Collegiate 4. Heat 2: Hamilton B.H.S. 1. Melville H.S. 2. Colenso H.S. 3, Christ s College 4. Maadi Cup.—Heat 1: Hamilton B.H.S. 1. Westlake B.H.S. 2. Wanganui Collegiate 3, Christ s College 4. Heat 2: King’s College 1. Fairfield College 2. St Andrew’s College 3. St Paul’s Collegiate 4.
New Selector. — It was third time lucky for Mr A. W. Edwards, who has ousted Mr A. R. Reid (Morrinsville) as the Waikato Rugby selector. In his two previous attempts Mr Edwards was beaten by Mr Reid.
Eighth Term.— Mr R. J. Brvers (Tauranga) is the only nomina-. tion as Bay of Plenty senior Rugby selector for 1970. It will be his eighth successive year as sole selector.
