Helicopter Crash
(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright? DA NANG, Feb. 10. A United States Army helicopter plunged into a Da Nang suburb today, killing 11 of the 12 men aboard, but there were no civilian casualties.
The helicopter developed a mechanical fault and crashed into a densely-populated shanty area, known as “The Dogpatch,” alongside the Da Nang air base. The one surviving man aboard was seriously injured. Rescue workers had to winch the helicopter on to its side to retrieve the bodies of the victims.
The crash was the second in Da Nang in 24 hours. Yesterday, a Skyhawk jet aircraft crashed on landing at the Da Nang base. The pilot was killed and the plane was destroyed.
