FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone covering the south Tasman Sea is spreading slowly on to the South Island; the cold front over northern New Zealand is also slow-moving. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate or fresh winds from the southerly quarter; mainly cloudy and cool. Marlborough and Nelson.—East or southeast winds fresh about the Sounds and Golden Bay, elsewhere moderate; partly cloudy and cool.
