Farm Machinery Display Planned

The Christchurch district committee of the New Zealand Federation of You ng Farmers’ Clubs will be holding another farm machinery demonstration on Wednesday and Thursday, March 11 and 12; On this occasion the venue will be a 200-acre area on the property of Mr DI P. Graham, Ahuriri, Tai Tapu.

Messrs W. Judd and A. Marshall, the joint chairmen of the advertising committee for the demonstration, said last week it seemed there would be twice as many exhibits on this occasion as when the committee last held a demonstration at Templeton.

They said 35 firms had indicated they would take part and it was likely that about 140 implemen s and machines would be seen in action, in addition to those which would be in static displays.

Each firm will be given a certain time to demonstrate each implement, and working demonstrations, with machines working by type or class —for instance mowers all at <he same timewill go on continously each day, apart from lunch breaks, from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

There will be pea ground to be worked, 15 acres have been drilled in barley in the hope that it can be handled by header harvesters, and there will also be 15 acres of lucerne for the use of mowers, windrowers, conditioners and balers.

At the moment it is planned to have the header harvester demonstrations on the first day, but depending on the weather this is interchangeable with a demonstration of four-wheel-drive machines—mainly tractors —to be held on hill country on the second afternoon. It is likely that there will be a grain dryer on the ground. One of the machines which will be demonstrated at Tai Tapu will be a new type of trencher and it is expected that there will also be irrigation equipment there. The new Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter) will attend the display. The joint chairmen said farm machinery firms were giving the demonstration very good support Programmes for the demonstration are to be sent to all farmers between the Rangitata and Conway Rivers before the event
