BELLAWARE FIT
"The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL. Bellaware and First Son, rival candidates for the President's Handicap at Gore on Saturday, were two of the more impressive final trialists at Invercargill yesterday morning. First Son was given a more searching task than Bellaware in his final trial but the latter put a good deal of dash into her trial.
Rain began to fall when the earliest gallops were held, but it cleared later in the morning. The course proper, 35 feet out from the rails, proved dead footing and was cutting out slightly in patches.
First Son started quietly from the mile and was timed over the last five furlongs in 65 2-ssec, the last three in 40 2-ssec.
Bellaware, a form runner for the Gore first leg, was untroubled to record 38 3-ssec for her three furlongs, the last two in 26 2-ssec.
Kalgoorlie In Fast Run "The Press” Special Service WANGANUI. A devastating six furlong trial at Wanganui yesterday morning showed the Te Awamutu-trained Kalgoorlie is at his peak form to test Game and Zephyrus in the Jackson Stakes at Wanganui. Kalgoorlie ran a mile, being timed from the six furlongs in imin 12}sec, an outstanding time for the No. 1 grass at Wanganui.
With K. S. Cullen aboard, Kalgoorlie was quickly into full stride when he left the mile, the pace was on throughout the six furlongs and lie finished full of running. On his last Wanganui visit Kalgoorlie looked rather lean and he raced accordingly. He is really solid now and is obviously at his peak. The maiden, Chakiro, again impressed as a likely. winner when he worked with the Wairoa candidate, Goldy Girl, which went over a round. She picked up Chakiro at the half mile and they came home over the last three furlongs together in 37 l-ssec with Chakiro, under the bigger weight, showing out at the finish. Pardoned Was Ineligible (N.Z. Press Association! DUNEDIN. As the result of a report submitted to the Dunedin District Committee concerning the eligibility of the horse, Pardoned, which finished third in the Omakau Handicap on the first day of the Vincent Jockey Club’s meeting on January 10, the committee found the facts proved and disqualified Pardoned from his placing. Jodema was promoted to third and Hour Of Truth to fourth.

Mr Southland (Parr) drew attention to his prospects when he went five furlongs in Imin 5 2-ssec, the first two in 24 4-ssec.
