Broadway Belle Likely

The Reefton mare, Broadway Belle, looked to record a winning trial for the Nelson Cup tomorrow when she finished third to Sirrah Jay and Morris Pal in a head-and-head finish to the Committee Stakes at Addington Raceway on Wednesday, evening.

Broadway Belle made all the pace in that race and it was close to the finish that she was caught. Her placing came after a sixth in a similar race on the first night of the meeting. The drop in class in the field in the Nelson Cup should enhance Broadway Belle's chances of success. She has had only limited racing this season and looks to be near winning. She will again be driven by W. H. Butt, who was associated with her at Addington. Dutch Courage has paced his best races on the Nelson course where he won the cup 12 months ago. He is on 36 yards, but that is unlikely to be sufficient to keep this fine stayer out of the finish.

Siouan, making a fresh start, showed sound form in the spring and in spite of a lack of recent racing he should go well. He, too, has

shown sound form on the Nelson course. Certify, on 60 yards, and Trafalgar, on 72 yards, have raced with distinction in much stronger company. If there is any loitering early and they can make up their handicaps without too much effort, they should add inter-

est to the finish of a race, which will have a maximum of nine starters as Sirrah Jay and Somerset Gold are not being taken north. King Dillon, Gemini Rose and Light Globe form a likely trio for the second leg, the Tasman Handicap, a race in which Peel Off and Sequoia should also be prominent The on-course double will be on the Appleby Handicap and the First Tahuna Handicap. The jackpot, which will have a new pool, will be on races four to eight inclusive. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be firm. Fields, with form, for T.A.B. double:
