Sik Seeks Asylum

Professor Ota Sik, the Deputy Prime Minister in the Czechoslovak Government at the time of the liberal leader, Mr Alexander Dubcek, has asked for asylum in Switzerland for himself and his family. A communique from the Swiss Federal Department of Justice and Police said that the request had been made in the last few days, and was being studied. Dr Sik has been living in Switzerland since October, 1968. Today’s announcement comes on the eve of a Czechoslovak Communist Party Central Committee meeting that is expected to bring changes in the Federal Government. . Informed sources in Praguehave forecast the removal of Mr Oldrich Cernik, who hasheaded the Government both; during and after the 1968 reform movement.
