FOURTH RAIL FERRY
Consideration : By Department (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. ! A fourth Cook Strait ferry 1 was being considered by the ; Railways Department, the ' Minister of Transport (Mr ' Gordon) said tonight He was commenting on remarks made this week by the chairman of the Marlborough ' Harbour Board (Mr W. B. 1 Parker) that the Government 1 should order a fourth ferry ' before the third, ordered last year, goes into service. Many complex factors were ‘ involved in the provision of another ferry, the Minister ' said. Two factors which had ! to be considered were the [ loss of the Wahine, and the ■ impending addition of the Rangatira on the Wellington- , j Lyttelton run. H Also, if the British coni'tainer proposals were imple- : mented, the total number of . containers expected to go by ■ the ferries from the South • Island represented only about 14 per cent of the capacity of : the third ferry, Mr Gordon . said.
