’Quake In Aleutians

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) WASHINGTON, Nov. 13. Another earth tremor was recorded today in the Aleutians, the third since a powerful nuclear weapon was detonated there recently, the National Earthquake Centre in Washington reports. It describes the earthquake as moderate, registering 5.5 on the open-ended Richter scale.

It was centred near the island of Umnak, about 500 miles east of the region near Adak and Amchitka Islands where stronger tremors occurred recently. It was on Amchitka Island that the United States Atomic Energy Commission detonated a hydrogen-bomb equivalent to more than a million tons of T.N.T., in spite of fears that it might cause earthquakes or tidal waves.
