LUCERNE FOR JAPAN
Factory Open Today The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) will open the lucerne dehydrating factory at Winslow this morning. The factory’s entire output of lucerne pellets will be shipped through Timaru to Sumitomo Shoji Kaisha, the Japanese company which will market them for stock food. When further plant has been built over the next three years the Winslow factory of Fletcher Industries, Ltd, will have cost sl.sm and its potential output will be the same figure a year. Among the official guests will be the Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand (Mr K. Yoshida) and the chairman of the Ashburton County Council (Mr K. M. Baxter). Other guests include local farmers who have contratced to supply lucerne, representatives of Federated Farmers, Government departments and local bodies. They will be welcomed by Mr J. C. Fletcher, the manag-ing-director of Fletcher Holdings, Fletcher Industries’ parent company, and after Mr i Taiboys has pressed a button Ito start the / machinery the (guests will tour the factory j and part of the 450-acre [research farm.

Mr J. A. Harley, the man-1 aging director of Nelson Breweries, Ltd, and two hotel; companies, is to retire next month after 50 years in the I brewing industry. He has! been a member of about 55 business, civic, social and sporting organisations. (P.A.) Mr J. A. C. Forrer, Civil Defence Officer for the Christchurch area for the last 13 months, has resigned. Mr Forrer, the first full-time officer to hold the post, will finish work on January 6, and will move to-Auckland.
Messrs C. Clasper, M. R. Compton, and J. B. Mathewson, all of Christchurch, have been admitted to membership of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand with the status of Associate.
