Senior Prize-giving At Burnside H.S.
Talk of State aid to private schools was heard a good deal these days, but by giving a large amount of private aid to a State school the Burnside High School parents’ committee had reversed this, the headmaster (Mr A. D Hunter) said in his annual report at the senior prize-giving ceremony on Wednesday. Mr Hunter said that without the help of the committee the school’s capital equipment would be meagre. In the last four years the committee had given equipment worth $l7OO. Visitors at the ceremony were welcomed by the chairman of the board (Mr B. Zeff). The guest speaker, Mrs M. A. H. Peters, of the history department. University of Canterbury, presented the academic prizes. The president of the parentteacher association (Mr L. J. Havard) and Mrs Havard presented sports trophies.
