IMPORTED FISH DEAD

Suffocation Suspected <N.Z. Press NAPIER, Nov. 12. Two years of planning by the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society were wasted when 30 silver carp, being imported from Malacca, were dead on arrival in Auckland last night. The cause of death is unknown. but the packaging and dispatch methods were suspect. The plastic bag in which the two-inch fish were packed was deflated when it arrived in Auckland. It is believed the fish may have died through lack of oxygen. The fish, imported from the Tropical Fish Research Institute in Malacca, were to be used in an attempt to combat the plankton bloom in Lake Tutira.
