MARKET LOSES A LITTLE GROUND BUT UNDERTONE STEADY

There were again more, falls than rises on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, but the falls were small and mostly by second-rank stocks. Leaders were fairly steady, and some sharp gains ensured that over all the market lost but little ground.

The sharpest relative rise was by Rickstan, which was 7c dearer at 29c. Winstone rose 18c to 500 in erratic but active trading. Wellington Publishing was another newspaper proprietor to improve, after gains this week by New Zealand Newspapers and Wilson and Horton; the shares rose 20c to 230 c. K.D.V. Industries, and Coulls, Somerville, Wilkie gained 10c each.
