Glider For A.T.C.
Air Training Corps cadets in the South Island expect to have their own glider either late next month or early in January.
It will be a Schleiseher Kl 3 sailplane from Germany and its arrival in New Zealand depends on transport from that country.
i Two Kl 3 sailplanes are due —one for the southern area of the corps and the other for the northern area. The central area already has a glider. The glider for the South Island will be based at Wigram but will be moved around the various squadrons. The sailplanes were purchased with money from raffles held by the Air League, the Air Force Association and by the Federation of Brevet Clubs. All have been paid for.
The purpose of having the gliders is to encourage flying in the A.T.C. and to provide cadets with flying experience.
Veteran's Ace.—Playing in a veteran golfers’ tournament in Taupo. J. H. Purcell, aged 63. of Taupo, holed the sixteenth with his tee shot. But he lost his semi-final to H. Stevens, of Paraparaumu.
